FREDERICK D. SMITH

 

Fred Smith helps organizations improve performance by acquiring, retaining, and developing optimum talent. He has over 20 years experience in various human resources and senior management roles, and for the past fifteen years he has directed consulting engagements with over 60 organizations.  Mr. Smith consults in the areas of strategic plan implementation, team coaching, workforce planning, talent management, performance, recruitment and assessment, leadership development, executive team development and coaching, and change management.  He has worked with the public and private sector at all organization levels, with union and management, and with the professional services, automotive, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, telecommunications, financial services, consumer products, retail, health care, insurance, chemical, and utility industries. 

 

Before becoming associated with Pathway Human Capital Advisors, Mr. Smith was the East Region Leader of the HR Management Business in Mellon’s Human Resources and Investor Solutions group.  He led a team of six consultants, delivering organization development and HR transformation solutions.  He also served as the Talent and Performance Practice Leader for Mellon.  Previously, he was a Director in the Global Human Resource Services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, a Senior Vice President in Aon Consulting’s Human Resources Consulting Group.  He also has experience in business education at the university level, and corporate experience in human resource management.

 

Mr. Smith holds a Master of Science Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University, where he also completed all requirements except the dissertation for the PhD.  He also holds a BS (with distinction) in Psychology from Penn State, and did his first two years of undergraduate work at the United States Air Force Academy.

 

He is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management, and an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.  He has contributed chapters to books on absenteeism and performance assessment, and has been a psychology instructor for the Pennsylvania State University.  He regularly gives talks on human resources issues to education, business, and industry groups.
